Choosing the right career path is crucial. You need to make sure that you made the best choice for yourself and future. However, during this process a teen can not help but wonder, whether we should follow our heart or brain. Should we choose the logical one or the one heart calls? The one we are sure we can achieve or the one we will be the happiest with?
Firstly and most importantly, never choose a path you will hate. Doing a job you hate all your life may feel like hell. Your want always comes first. Remember, you can only achieve something in your job if you enjoy it. However, considering your skills is important too. For instance I am between economics and fashion design. I am passionate about fashion but don’t believe that my sketching or sewing skills are advanced. I am not passionate about economics but think that I am cut out for this industry. I am sure I can achieve my dream of becoming a CEO in a company. But deep down being a fashion designer will be my dream. And I am scared that in the future, while talking on the phone, I will find myself sketching dresses I never was able to design. And I am also scared to realize I am not advanced enough to be a designer while trying to find a design idea. I am scared, to realize it is too late.
Subsequenlty, try every way to make the path you want the most work. For example, I said that I am not very good at drawing but I can always go to a course to improve my skill. Let’s say I tried it but it seems like I am not “gifted”. It seems like it is just not working. Then considering the other option may be the healthiest decision. Because you need to make sure that you don’t burn out in the future.
However, always remember, you can never know what life brings to you. Life will always be spontaneous. You can never guess where success waits you. With all these unknowns, all a person can do is plan like things are gonna work out. We can’t wait for that sucess to find us. You need to still plan, work and try. So, you need to at least figure out which path may work out if life doesn’t swing you to another one. Being prepared is never a weakness or loss.
What I’m trying to point out is that, even though the future is unknown, you have to make sure you have a desicion by yourself before life makes one for you. I may choose to be an economist but one day I may find myself as a fashion designer. At least I decided on my start line. At least I took a moment to decide on how to start. As everyone says, starting is the hard part. That’s why I have to start with the right foot, even though it might take a turn.
In conclusion, life is full of unknowns. But since we can not sit and wait for the future, we have to make major decisions in our lives. Coming to our main question, during one of these major decisions, should we consider what we are the best at or the one we want the most? I say consider your skills and wants together. Passion is very powerful but it is a zero without a supporting skill. At least try your best to have a skill. After all, this dilemma is nothing but a pros and cons list. Make a list by yourself. And choose the path your heart and brain consensus. Never make a decision only with your heart or brain…
